Ohio Bio-Enviro Settlements, Inc.

Our Mission:

To develop 30 or more environmentally and economically sustainable Bio-Communities throughout Ohio over the next 10 years, using recycled lumber for buildings, and used (waste) passenger car tires for the insulation inside of the walls.  We'll use environmentally friendly and economically sound, Solar Technology,  Fuel Cell Technology, and Waste Digester Technology, in each of these communities.   We will work on a project by project basis to achieve our missions, and to ensure that each of the communities continue to prosper after completion.

Our Philosophy:

All creatures can live in harmony, and share common living areas, if those areas are designed to insure livable space for each creature, that does not inhibit or interfere with the other creatures natural habits or instincts.

Our First Goal:

To begin work on our first test community for 55 families, in late 1999 or early 2000 at the 22 acre Camelot West Nature Sanctuary, in New Athens Ohio.

Our Designs:

Most of the buildings we use in our Eco-communities are Earth Shelter Type Buildings, and they are designed to be built into the side of a hill, with only the south facing wall exposed.   We have chosen this style because it will allow us to reestablish forests on top of the each of the houses and in doing so reestablishing habitats for the creatures that normally inhabit these areas.  The above ground buildings will be limited in their impact on the environment, in that they will be greenhouses, used for growing food.   The only other building to be build that is above ground will be the Community Center, and it will be home to the Eco-communities offices, the public library, a small restaurant, and a general store.  We have taken the liberty of using a castle's towers for the basis of this unit because it will allow us to use our unique thick wall construction and still present an very esthetically pleasing building.

Our Current Project:

We are currently working towards ground braking at the Unicorns Glen Eco-Community, which will be located at the Camelot West Nature Sanctuary, in New Athens Ohio.  This first in a series of settlements will be the research and development site for all future settlements.  Here all systems will be tested for ease of use, and sustainability, and modified or changes as improvements are designed and worked out.
