The Community Center

The community center will house the nearly 2000 square foot community library, a small restaurant, a general store, and the community offices, but it is not just a static governmental building, due to the fact that its' major contribution to the community outside of its social and governmental value will be from the recessed flat roof area on to of each of the towers.  These are specifically designed for rain collection, at the rate of 1900 gallons of water per inch of rainfall, rain water will be collected and directed into the community water storage resources.  Using this method of collection, and based on the areas 25 to 40 inches of annual rain fall, we will be able to collect more than 1,000,000 gallons of water annually, which will substantially reduce the amount of water that we will need to be pumped from wells.  With water conservation and diverted reuse, we will be able to take the average 80 (US national average) gallons per person used per day, and reduce that to about 30 gallons per person per day, without any noticeable loss by the individual.  We plan to achieve this in a variety of ways, but the first substantial reduction will be the use of ultra high efficiency plumbing fixtures.  Toilets that use only 2 quarts of water per flush rather than the tradition 1.9 gallons or more currently used.  The toilets will be supplied with their water from the reuse tanks collected from the bathing and washing facilities in the house, and since the water will be put through a cotton filter medium prior to reuse there will be little if any difference in appearance in the water.   Water from the toilets, and the kitchen sinks will be direct processed into the digester system for conversion to methane gas, which will be compressed and returned to the homes for heating and cooking purposes, as well as used for fuel for the PEM fuel cell system.  A closed system will allow us to substantially reduce or eliminate the strain on the eco-system, without the need for us to live less comfortably than we are traditionally accustom to living.
